 Poetic and dark. The poem speaks of the destructive power of evil,
and how it can corrupt even the most innocent of things. The speaker
stands firm against this darkness, but they are aware of the toll it has
taken on the world around them.

 The poem`s imagery is vivid and evocative. The "negative zone
mirrors" reflect the speaker`s own inner darkness, while the "smiling face"
and "great favors" of evil represent its seductive allure. The "eternal
death" that the speaker stands firm on is a metaphor for their
determination to resist evil, even in the face of its overwhelming power.

 The poem`s final stanza is a haunting list of the things that have
been lost to evil: the children`s forest, the vanished. It is a reminder
of the high cost of evil, and the importance of fighting against it.
