A bridge adds to tor`s protection. It doesn`t disable it.
In its simplest form, a tor bridge is an unpublished tor node.

In fact, recently in Belarus, the slogan has been "Use Tor, use bridges!"

That`s not why you use a tor bridge.
You use tor bridges to make the first hop less noticeable as a tor node.

All the tor bridge does is add to Firefox an initial tor node that isn`t
advertised to be a tor node (which is in addition to the 3 tor nodes).

There are 4 variations for the 2,500,000 tor users daily.
[1] direct (this is 98% of tor users as only 2% use bridges)
[2] public (90% of bridge users use the public tor bridges)
[3] unlisted (10% of bridge users use the unlisted tor bridges)
[4] private (nobody knows the percent but it`s likely not large)

But it will help the average user when she googles for her cooky recipe.

Why should she be tracked in everything she does when she can drop firefox
for the firefox tor bundle and finally all that tracking instantly stops.
