OT  So Kevin McCarthy finally did what I thought he should, offered a
Continuing Resolution that continued things instead of changing things.
His earlier one had 20 and 30% cuts in what are thought to be liberal
programs. Making a change like that in a CR is ridiculous. 

Even this one came with, get this, an increase in salary for House
members!!!!  While they`re in the middle of screwing up, they`re goign
to give themselves a raise.  What chutzpa.   But they agreed to take
that out. 

And then, get this, Kevin had the House adjourn until Monday even though
the Senate has not yet voted on the CR, and even though Mitch McConnell
is saying that Republicans should vote against it, even though he
doens`t want the govt. to close. 


I don`t understand while McCarthy and others were against using
Democrats to get what he wanted.  I don`t understand Hakim Jeffries and
others being against "helping" Republicans - I don`t know what his final
position was on this last vote, or how many Dems voted for it, but I`m
sure 25 or so crackpot Republicans voted against it so it must have been
29 or more Dems. 

"A majority of the majority" is a slogan for the Republicans, but in
this case they had all the Reps except for those 25 (Marjorie, etc.) so
what is the problem with having Dems make up the difference.   (Only 12
hours ago McCarthy said he wouldn`t do that.) 

And if they try to get rid of him now, who do they have to replace him
that can get a majority of the House, Dems included? 


I would have told him a week ago that he can be a hero, pass a new
budget, and be kicked out by the maga crowd,  OR he can follow the maga
crowd, close the govt, be despised, and in 2025, no longer be in the
majority or be speaker.   So either way he woudn`t be speaker 16 months
from now, but my way he`d be a hero for a while and be remembered in
part as a legislator instead of a failure.
