After rummaging about in /var/log and lower directectories, I cam across an
entry in the logs from `unattended upgrades`

unattended-upgrades/unattended-upgrades.log:2023-09-07 06:20:45,816 \\ 
  WARNING Shutdown msg: b"Reboot scheduled for Fri 2023-09-08 04:00:00 AEST, \\ 
   use `shutdown -c` to cancel."

  Seems like it. Now to find the option in `unattended upgrades` to
  disable these shutdowns.

 As the message says, running "shutdown -c" cancels this shutdown along
 with the hourly warning messages.
