The Bible is a good starting point as it is circa 430 AD but there are older
documents going back a LOT earlier.

I seem to recall it is also commented on in the Koran but those like the 
bible,
can have varied content depending on origin.

Remember the Bible was constructed by church personal who through out more 
than
they added in but I must admit I could never find the sources of the
originating documents - thoughts of the back of an envelope string to mind etc
:)

I keep trying to remind myself to ask a rabbi for the date and sources of the
Tabut (Jewish equivalents, etc) but I do not travel near one these days.
