and that`s another good reason to reject joining the EU.

The pound has been around pre 7th century and more likely elements of it, when
the Romans tried to invade the UK - say around 2-3 century - somewhat older
than the euro and a lot more stable and is still heavily used throughout large
parts of the world as a primary exchange currency along with the US dollar,
although this has reduced in recent years.
