  They are also restoring rivers that were destroyed by dams for
electricity or converting deserts into farmland a century ago.

  Those rivers made it possible for salmon to reproduce; now they
are returning up the restored waterways to their old birthplaces, almost
immediately as if the last 100 years never existed.

  Amazing how the salmon somehow have preserved their memory through
generations this way.

  So yes, especially in the northern states, they are doing amazing
work, deserving respect.
