I am now running 0.1.2 which supports IPv6. I notice the following.

 Selecting : "Auto" seems to boil down to "Prefers IPv4". Whenever I
try, it always connects to IPv4 with this setting. So it either IS
"prefer IPv4" or IPv4 always wins the race you describe. Without giving the
IPv6 a little headstart as in "Happy Eyeballs". As an IPv6 evangelist I
would prefer IPv6 to have a small advantage.

 To make it connect via IPv6 I have to select "prefer IPv6". Then
it does indeed connect via IPv6. I have not yet been able to try
this setting in an IPv4 only network. Stay tuned...

 I have tried to connect to an IPv6 only server. When I try to
connect to a server where the DNS only shows an AAAA record, there is no
connection. Not with "auto" and not with "prefer IPv6". "Mislukt, Netwerk
onbereikbaar" (Failed, network unreachable)

 What I also have not tried yet is to connect to an IPv4 only
server from an IPv6 only netwwork. What happens? No connection? Or does it
try NAT64/DNS64?
