I had the same problem with hptutil corrupting message bases when linking &
packing with that utility. Instead I link with `hpt link -j` and pack with
`sqpack "*"` (despite the name, sqpack can pack both jam & squish message
bases).

 I don`t sort messages either. I`ve noticed that I`ll sometimes
receive a reply before receiving the original message, but not often. Like
Nick, I`ll just display messages in the order they`re received.
