After a little more digging, "Origin" in hpt.texi is defined as:

 Add this Origin to hpt messages: post, reports about new areas
created. This statement cannot be repeated.

 I do notice that FMail can be configured to force a tear/origin
line, though. So maybe it`s a per-tosser thing.
