See Wilfred`s response for a better explanation than I could provide on my
own.

The workaround in the BBS software is, when deleting a message, to set the
DELETED flag and also a flag that makes hpt think the message is already
processed.  So it sticks to the JAMAPI specs without breaking anything.

Per Wilfred, sounds like Golded+ also has a workaround.
