The thing is that they don`t hope that the country fails.  They can`t see that
what they are doing will cause the country to fail.  They only see their
"wonderful" policies - that always fail (but they never recognize that).  The
see their power crumbling.  They see their protection from prosecution going
away.  And, most important, their income ending.

They have never cared for anyone other than themselves and the other elitists. 
They are truely the party of the slave owners.
