I recall the first bicycle I bought with a threadless headset. There was
no Star-Fangled nut. It was very difficult to get the preload set.
Since there is no height-adjustment I ended up adding an extender which
no doubt negated the entire weight-saving of the threadless headset.
That manufacturer should have used spacers and not cut the tube so short.
I guess that one big simplification on mountain bikes is the move to
1x12 from 3x9.
