I learned to ride a bicycle on my older sister`s bike that didn`t have
a top bar. I learned all by myself because, on a farm back then,
everybody else was busy. I was probably about five years old and
couldn`t possibly have ridden a bike with a top bar. It had a front
basket which I bent all out of shape before I got it right. My sister,
bless her heart, wasn`t happy about the basket, but she was willing to
share the bike with me. I remember pedaling that thing around,
wobbling back and forth because my legs were not much longer than the
cranks.

At my high school, we were banned from going to our cars in the
parking lot during lunch hour, so many of us would park at the
shopping mall down the street. We were going to walk to the mall for
our lunch anyway.
