What do you do and say when your party loses its mind?   

According to Mr. Hines: nothing.  Agree?   

 He loves political theater only when it doesn`t expose the GOP to
massive gobs of ridicule. Fair?

 Maybe his sound mind must be on other concerns, something may be
afoul with the White House tennis courts... or shrubbery? Is that it? 

 Mr. Hines lends his sincere opinion so rarely that it takes on the
value of precious minerals. He plays dead exceedingly well; given, granted,
kudos, well done. But I still prefer a little prose... concise, terse,
brief, clipped, blunt and gruff... to silence, golden as it might be. 

 I need to criticize Biden again and gab about war. Something Mr.
Hines may like... take it as an olive branch if you will. I keep a
little one, dried up, from the Acropolis: it exudes peace. May it reach
you.

Speed kills But At The Pentagon It Merely Astonishes.

 I complained before about how Biden`s commander in chief tenure is
afflicted by the one-dollar-short-and-a-day-late disease - only that now it has
aggravated to billions-short-and-years-late. 

Speed and the lack of it, in war.  Examples to follow and avoid abound...   

 Take Caesar`s crossing of the Rubicon in January 49 BC. He deployed
a single legion, his veteran Legio XIII, with such speed that Pompey
scooted to the heel of Italy without a fight and from there to Greece,
taking with him the consuls and most of the Senate. Plans to defend Italy
were undone by the speed with which Caesar moved, advancing directly on
Rome with minimal resistance. Most remarkably, Pompey remained in Greece
even when Gaius vacated Italy for months to subdue Pompeian forces in
Hispania and cover his rear, returning to Italy in December 49 BC.

 Being were your enemy doesn`t expect you to be in a time frame
they couldn`t possibly imagine completely ruins the moral of your enemy.
So there is much to say about rapid deployment, whenever possible. That
alone seems to have sufficed at times...

 At Marathon, 490 BC, the Athenians fought a hard infantry battle,
repulsed the Persian navy, keeping seven of their ships, and then marched 27
vertiginous miles back to Athens, so that when Median Admiral Datis got to the
Piraeus, went.... "WTF..., what`s that?" And a slave replied, "More Hellene
scum, sire." In fact, they were the same Hellenes... Though the Athenians
were standing armed, they were probably about to fall asleep. Deploying
alone did the trick, if I remember correctly. 

 So yes, Biden`s Pentagon, surely knows, but has been made to
ignore, the value of SPEED and timeliness in military campaigns. Hence the
pitiful state of the Ukrainian counteroffensive... while thousands of tanks
and fighters sit in the sun, unused, in our fields and hangars. 

 Now, the other side is far from blameless... Russia has AGAIN badly
underestimated the potential of an enemy. 
 The last Czar started a `small victorious war` with Japan to
distract from internal problems. It sounded much like a `special military
operation.` It turned out to be neither small nor victorious, and Russia
achieved the feat of not winning a single major action against Japan.
Putin`s record is slightly better, but it seems to follow the same arc...
with corruption impeding military efficiency and supply. Apparently, the
Czar`s fleet was so corrupt under a royal, that the latest warship almost
sank because instead of metal rivets, which were stolen, they used tallow
candles. Because there are no Serpicos in Russia, the rot of corruption
impairs every link of the supply chain, a problem that can be compensated
for only in part with more troops. Russia is wont to start this sort
of small wars and they often bring sudden change. Japanese victory
worsened Russian revolutionary tendencies and things ended up for Nicholas
worse than Afghanistan did for Andropov. Looking at history, Putin must be
really worried about losing this war. 

 Now, if you combine both lack of speed (US) and underestimating the
enemy (Russia), history has again more examples.... One is the first
British invasion of Zululand. The Brits felt contempt for the Zulu `brutes`
and the technically superior force paid concern only to their logistics
train, failed to fortify their camp and split into separate slow-moving
columns. In contrast, the Zulu army marched 50 miles in five days, and just
like the Athenians, after the march came the battle with an enemy
astonished by the speed with which defenders materialized all around them,
prior to abject defeat. Zulu destroyed the British camp, killed hundreds
of red-jackets, and forced the surviving rest of the British to flee
Zululand, though in the end, the Brits succeeded in subsequent expeditions
against black massed spearmen. 

Just saying, but... I wish I could carbon copy the Pentagon...
