Hey DM--thanks as always for your time and help.

 I believe it`s the hostname lookup. I disabled it just a minute
ago and will monitor it.

 > What the size of your text/host.can and text/*ip.can files?

 They`re just a few lines long, each, with what look to be the
default, commented-out lines with semi-colons.

 > Resolving hostname...

 Yeah, this is where the delay gets longer and longer. An extra
note. Whenever I connect, the "Telnet connection from:" always shows as
"::1"
