 slrn worked as did thunderbird. so there must be something between
PAN and synchronet nntp that is not compatible. I have two working
options, so appreciate the feedback.

 I`ll see if I can determine issue, but at this point i know it
seems to be unique to PAN. I did remove other news servers to be sure
it wasn`t getting confused between the other servers. But still got
error in event log and got no such file error on the synchronet side.[0m
