 According to some people, Menelaus was right to start the Trojan
War because his wife left him to be with another man.

 By that standard Russia should invade America because there are many
Russian women married to American men.

 Now Paris and Helen were frequently accused of hubris; but the
hubris of Menelaus was far greater. He thought that his possessive interest
over his wife justified him in leading a whole country into war and
destroying a whole city. My wife left me as well, but I never did anything
similar.

 Greeks are known for having been misogynistic; and there are two
sources of that influence. One is the wrong lessons learned from Trojan
War. The other is a result of having ridiculously high expectations for
women. If you have unrealistic expectations, you will be disappointed with
most of what you get. So they expected of women ridiculous things and
became misogynistic when the women couldn`t meet these expectations. They
passed down this disastrous attitude to posterity, and women today keep
suffering as a result.

 As for the Trojan War, wrong lessons have been learned from it.
Some people see romantic love as vanity; but I`ve known matches made by
scientists and military people of World War II generation that started with
love at first sight and were still going strong when the parties were
in their 90s. And while Iliad blames Paris and Helen for the war, the
true villain was Menelaus.

 It is inevitable that people will make romantic attachments. It is
also inevitable that these get challenged. This reality needs to be dealt
with as all human realities. People must solve such situations in a
peaceful and civilized manner. Having maintained a positive relationship with
my former wife, I know that this is possible. And I highly recommend
that path to other men.
