I lived three and a half miles from my grade school. Several farm
families joined together and altenately drove us to school. Later,
about my fourth grade, they got an old bus so the drives ended. 

Sometimes a bunch of us rode bikes to school, a nearby neighbor kid
and I sometimes rode our horses. There was a relative with a farm next
to the school and we turned them loose in his pasture. 

Later, in jr high, I rode the bus or rode the "English racer" It was
further, about six miles, I estimate

My mom took me to get my driver`s license on my 16th birthday. I
already had the car. A 51 Mercury.
