Costa does. Or more precisely he denies that the name is derived from 
the word for `man`. He argues for an origin in an Illinois word meaning 
`(speak) in the ordinary way`, which has a similar form, and which was 
borrowed into Ottawa as an ethnonym.

I would speculate that this word and the word for `man` might have a 
common origin in the root *elen- `ordinary, plain`. (See Section 60 et 
passim.)
