Well that depends on what "mutations" mean, and what de Vries meant.

 Think "he rediscovered Mendel`s work"...but by all means, do more
research on the subject. Suffice to say that Harshman is making a mountain
out of a molehill, all clearly to serve his needs of being seen as
"in the know" and everyone else not, and stupid, or insane as well.
From the next paragraph of the Wiki quote above:
